I was raised in an entrepreneurial household and by the time I was 10 realized that my Dad, only once had the time to have a game of catch with me. That thought stuck in my head throughout my life and has driven me to help business owners get more time back in their lives.
Like most kids though, I didn't want to work in my family business and decided to go off to college to get a degree and become " a suit". Looking back at the suit idea, perhaps not the best decision I have made but a learning experience none the less. I went to work in corporate America, advancing through some pretty interesting careers and working environments. Learning, throughout my career, how to work with people and solve problems that companies were facing.
While I still didn't have family business interests, I did want to own my own business, so I started a technical consulting firm. It was then I understood why I hadn't had all those games of catch with my Dad. I was working 80-90 hours per week and while on the books I was making good money, it just wasn't translating to my wallet. I was spending too much time chasing my money and insuring that work was done correctly and not enough doing what I loved to do. I closed down the firm after 6 years and was blessed with a great opportunity to head up some new projects for one of my large clients in their technology department.
Over the next 10
years, I still had a yearning to be my own boss, so I encircled myself
with mentors who were business owners and learned from them what makes
business work. I worked with many of them on some web initiatives that
provided great insight and amazingly, I was enjoying business ownership again as well as its financial rewards. I still run those businesses today and introduce and mentor persons who want to have a business of their own but don't have the means to "take the leap."
I started RIY Business Group to meet the needs that I had experienced as a small business owner,. I was searching for a way to help the small to medium business owner to get through the day to day challenges of business ownership without having to do it alone. The person who, knew what needs to be done but hasn't been able to figure out how to do it themselves. Who is looking for a person who they can trust, bounce ideas off of, get kicked in the tail by and be held accountable to.
I originally planned to go out on my own and then came across the Professional Business Coaches Alliance(PBCA) and felt that with the strength and minds of hundreds of coaches and the best of breed alliances and tools that the PBCA brings to the relationship, I could serve my clients with a premier level of confidence and insure their success.
