Inspired by what makes some businesses succeed while others struggle, Kevin noticed specific ways successful owners act and communicate. Patterns they follow. Things they do day to day that raise them beyond their peers. Over more than 20 years he studied and captured that information — and now shares it so others can get the success they want for the business and for themselves.
He was raised in a blue-collar entrepreneurial household. His father was a hard worker and a dedicated provider with strong family values, and still never had the time and money he hoped for as an owner. He worked endless hours, lived away from home during the week, and came back on weekends because he felt it was his responsibility.
Like most kids, Kevin did not want to work in the family business. He went to college, took a corporate job, and started a technical consulting firm. It taught him why his father had so little time: he was soon working 80–90 hours a week to build the future he pictured, and had almost no time to enjoy his life. On paper the money looked fine. It did not translate to his wallet. After six years he shut the firm down when a major client offered him the chance to lead projects — and he finally had room to think about the future again.
Over the next decade he surrounded himself with mentors and successful owners, and rebuilt his understanding of what it takes to be a better business owner. He started online projects that have lasted, helping people who want to start a business of their own but are afraid to take the leap.
He then started RIY Business Group to meet the needs he had as a small business owner: a way through the day-to-day without doing it alone, a pattern and system for the person who knows what needs to be done but has not figured out how, and a person to trust, bounce ideas off of, and be accountable to.
